Sexual assault on women in Manipur brought shame to entire human society: Assam's women organizations

Guwahati: The Moran Jatiya Mahila Parishad (MJMP), women’s wing of Moran community on Tuesday said that the sexual assault and naked parade of two Kuki women have brought shame not only to Manipur but the entire civilized human society.

“While the Bharatiya Janata Party led National Democratic Alliance government has been spearheading the “Beti Bchao,Beti Padhao campaign, the incident has brought shame not only to Manipur but the entire civilized human society,” stated Runjun Moran, secretary, Moran Jatiya Mahila Parishad.

The women organizations of Assam has vehemently condemning the gruesome incident that took place in the strife-torn Manipur in which two Kuki women were paraded naked and sexually assaulted by a mob on May 4 .

“The Parishad demands immediate intervention of the Supreme Court, the president of India, the Prime Minister and the Home Minister so that all those involved in this henious act can be handed severe punishment,” stated in press cominique.

As Women’s security is in crisis in Manipur the Parishad demanded constitutional and legal safeguards to protect the dignity of women to set the example of good governance.

The organization also urged the National Commission for Women and the National Commission for Schedule Tribes to ensure justice for the victims .

“We appeal the Central government to take immediate action to restore peace in Manipur,” said Sunita Sarma, woman activist.

On the other hand, Ranjan Choudhary, noted social and political activist of Tinsukia said, “I appeal for peace and an impartial inquiry into the incident led by a sitting judge of the supreme court. I also demand for president’s rule in Manipur without delay to end the ethnic violence in the neighboring state.

Violence continues in the northeastern Bharatiya Janata Party ruled state since ethnic clashes broke out in May this year.
